Free and Accepted Masons of Utah
Organizations
Freemasons do not stand alone. Without the support of the family Masons wouldn’t receive the full benefits that the fraternity offers. There are a number of organizations which Freemasonry associates with, supports, or is directly involved in for women, young women, and young men helping to establish the same Masonic values throughout the household. These are but a few of the honorable organizations available.
did You Know?
Thirteen of our Founding Fathers were Masons? As a matter-of-fact, a good many of our National Monuments bear Masonic symbols in their decor. Masons put stock in symbols because they can say so much in such little space.
For example: the rainbow symbolizes that God is good and He cares about people, while the crown that Job’s Daughters use symbolizes leadership, while the Order of DeMolay uses another version of the crown to symbolize the virtues one builds a good life upon where each jewel stands for a different virtue (filial love, love for parents, reverence, respect for sacred things, courtesy, comradeship, fidelity, cleanliness in thought, word, and deed, and patriotism.
The Masons use the Square and Compass as their most common symbol. The Square represents Virtue and Morality. The Compass stands for the importance of keeping our passions within bounds, and spirituality. The letter “G” found in Masonic symbols represents God and geometry as in ancient times it was believed that the study of geometry led the mind to God.
The five-pointed star used by the Eastern Star is a symbol of the star that guided the wise men to Bethlehem. Masons use a five-pointed star too. The Masonic use is related to the five points of Man (head, hands, and feet). The Scottish Rite uses the star to represent the Glory of God...
There is much more to the symbols you’ll encounter, and you’ll likely see representations of them in architecture around the world.
DeMolay International
The DeMolay International organization is dedicated to helping prepare young men from the ages of 12-21 to lead successful, productive, and happy lives. Basing its principles on timeless precepts, DeMolay opens doors for young men through civic awareness, personal responsibility, and leadership skills that are so vital in today’s society. Combining the importance of this objective with a fun approach helps build bonds of friendship that will last a lifetime. This program is a great introduction to a Masonic lifestyle.
Some DeMolay Alumni:
Walt Disney, John Wayne, Walter Cronkite, football Hall-of-Famer Fran Tarkenton, legendary football coach Tom Osborne, David Goodnow, and many others.
Job’s Daughters International
The Job’s Daughters International organization is focused on helping young women develop the skills necessary to excel in life. Focusing on friendship-building exercises that help the community, the less fortunate, and build leadership and organizational skills, this organization affords young women many various methods for a healthier, fuller life.
Order of the Eastern Star
This is the largest fraternal order in which both men and women can be members in the world. It is a social order, but like Freemasonry, it is not a religion. The stated purposes of the order are: Charitable, Educational, Fraternal, and Scientific.
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls
Rainbow is a nonprofit organization that seeks to provide girls with the tools, training, and encouragement to build confidence and self-assuredness. They provide a safe, fun, and caring environment where responsible, older girls can interact and mentor younger girls through family involvement. Members participate in fun activites focused around chariable work, public speaking, and the Lessons of Rainbow to enhance the lives of those around them as well as themselves.
